A Boy "Graduates" and A Hero

We leave for vacation on Friday and Jonathan is going to miss his "graduation" next week. They are doing a Patriotic program and we wanted to get it on tape. I made arrangements for us to go to their rehearsal today so we could tape it and show it to the family. Hubby was off work, so it was going to be perfect. I get a call from my hubby around 7:15 this morning letting me know how his night was last night (he is a firefighter). I heard the exhaustion in his voice and he goes on to explain how he is running on 2 hours of sleep. My heart sunk a little because I knew that he wouldn't be able to make it to Jonathan's practice because he would need to sleep. I would want him to sleep. He explains about the call that he was on all night.

He goes home to sleep, but gets up in time to see this...

He might not have saved anyone last night, but he and the others tried their best, and he is still Jonathan's hero. Mine and Jacob's too!

I love you baby! I am SOOO proud of you!

Umm, Weird I Guess?

So I am leaving Target today and heading to the bank. I pull up to a red light and wait for the traffic to clear so that I can make a right turn. I look across at the lane in front of me and see a man, driving a minivan. That in and of itself isn't a bad thing...my hubby has been driving mine for almost a week now. Upon further inspection, I notice that the man is wearing a vest. Again, not too bad...except that it isn't a "nice, dress up kind of vest" but one that a girl might have worn in the early 90's! I KNOW you know what I am talking about. So, check one, that is weird. Again, the vest....strange. Stranger...he has no shirt on under the vest! Yea, check two, weird. Then, the thing that drew my attention to the minivan in the first place was that the sliding door on the driver's side was open. Yes, open. I was wondering why when I noticed the vest and such and was distracted. Then, back to the door my focus came, when I saw him reach back and open the other sliding passenger door. What???? Then, I notice he slides a bag under the seat, I guess to make sure it doesn't go flying out of his open passenger doors! So, check three and four, weird, weird. It wasn't that hot today! I made my right turn and thought...finally, something fun to blog about! Wished I had taken a picture since I had my camera with me, but I only just now realized that. Darn it!

What I am LOVIN' About My Boys

I bet you are thinking that this list is going to be really long, but it won't be. This will be quick and easy. Painless too. Here it is...

I love that when you are tickling them they don't try to get away. My instinct is to run and hide if I am about to be tickled. They just sit there and giggle. Not laugh, but giggle. And, it is laughter that is truly infectious.

Thanks for making me laugh today and reminding me how much I love you both boys!

Thankful Tuesday

Today, I am thankful for the fact that my almost 5 year old doesn't have to be entertained all the time. He plays so well by himself, I almost feel guilty. Right now, he is playing with his Geotrax. We love them here and enjoy designing different tracks. They bring a lot of joy, and a little frustration sometimes. Mostly joy.
I am also thankful for the fact that my husband is home for two days! He has been at the fire station for the past four days!

I am also thankful for this website that I ran across via another site...you know how it goes in blog world. There are some great crafty ideas and tutorials on the side column. I think that I just may make these for my end of the year gifts for my boys' teachers.

I am thankful for the biggest and littlest boys sleeping right now.
I am thankful that I made it to the gym today for a run!

Glorious Day

Today was beautiful! I mean glorious! I live in a beach town. Did you know that? I am not a huge beach fan, but I don't mind getting a little color and a nice exfoliation of my feet every once in a while. Today was the day! I was working on the class gift this morning for Jonathan's teachers and couldn't make it to Body Pump at the gym. Soooo, instead of going for a run, I went for a soak. A sun soak. Today was a burn day at the beach. I didn't stay long because I knew that I would be in trouble if I did. I stayed at the beach for about 30 minutes. It was just enough. The breeze made it just the right temperature. I didn't even break a sweat! That is my kind of beach day. We are planning on taking the boys later this week. You see, the tourist season starts this weekend, so we are going to take advantage of the LACK of tourists this week, because we won't venture back for a few months, after Labor Day is here. Did you do anything out of the ordinary today?

One Lesson

I've been thinking about something for a while. So, I thought that I would post it and see what kind of answers my few readers have. So, think about it and leave a comment please! Here it is...

If you could teach your children/ future children one thing, just one lesson, what would it be? What would you MOST want them to learn from you?

I am just curious. I will compile the ideas, and re-post later along with my thoughts. There is no right or wrong answer here...looking forward to reading your answers!

Jumpin' on THAT Bandwagon!

I have really wanted to have a cuter blog, but don't have the money to spend on it. I have looked around to find some free templates, but haven't liked anything I have seen. Then I saw Caroline's blog and loved her free template that she found and totally hoped on that wagon and took it for a ride! It was a nice ride. Fun. No bumps. No bruises. Just fun. I am heading to visit my sis this weekend with the boys. My two are SO excited about seeing their cousin! I am looking forward to the trip too. Got to pack tonight and watch a movie I rented. Probably won't blog again. But need to do some documenting...
1. Mother's Day
2. Sweet Old Woman Craziness
3. Life in General
One day.....

Blessings and Battles

So I am getting the cold that Jacob has had the past week. Better now though. We leave for vacation in 17 days and I don't want to be sick while we are gone. Can I brag on my kids for a minute? No? Too bad, I am going to anyway:) I had to sleep today so I asked them what movie they wanted to watch and they decided on...

Yes, we watch Christmas movies all year round here. I am not ashamed. So, I put the movie on and asked them to kindly let me sleep on the couch and not talk to me. They pretty much let me be. I was able to sleep/rest which allowed me to have enough energy to go on a bike ride with the boys. So, win-win I guess.

I haven't posted much lately because I have been trying to spend less time in front of the computer. I get sucked into it really easily and then I start to feel like a bad mom. So, the battle has been to post or not to post. I have a post waiting to be written about my Mother's Day. So, when I have some time and don't have the sniffles, I will post it. With pictures and all!

Blessings!

Oh My Soul!

Have you watched the news lately? Or read the paper? Or, as in my case, caught up on the news via the Internet? I have CNN bookmarked and read the headlines daily, usually. I am amazed at what is happening in this world! And NOT in a good way! I think that I am most troubled by the incest family in Austria. I mean, in my opinion, what kind of person can kidnap their daughter, rape her repeatedly causing her to have seven children, pretend they are a happy family, all while in a cellar below his home with his wife? I am not joking. If you are unfamiliar with the story, click here for what is going on.
Then, I read in the paper that a grown child was looking for pizza in her mother's freezer and found not one, not two, but three infant bodies! This was in Germany. The woman was 44 years old and she hid the pregnancies for her family. It is thought that she hid the babies in the 1980's! Here is that story.
Then, there is a massive cyclone in Myanmar, and the government won't let in foreign aid. People are going to die from diseases that could have been stopped by letting aid into the country!
I just don't understand why this is happening. I mean, I get that this world is a horrible place. As a believer in Jesus Christ, this is the only hell I will ever know. I can't even begin to, nor do I want to, imagine what hell is really going to be like.
I have heard a new song by David Crowder Band, called Never Let Go. There is a cool video on you tube that is set to the song. Check it out!
I am so thankful that Jesus never lets go of us. He died for me, for you, for all of us while we were still stuck in the thickness of sin. For those who believe in Him, they will be saved and are held in Jesus' hand and He never lets go!

My First Furniture Re-do

Pretty sad huh? We have had our furniture for almost 8 years. The ottoman has taken a beating. It has too many stains to mention. I have been really annoyed with it lately. So I decided to take The Nester's idea of window mistreatments and see if I could do it with my ottoman. Anybody who knows me knows that I am SO NOT creative!

I started by cutting the fabric (is was duck cloth I think, is that what it is called?) and cutting it to the right size, just touching the floor on each side.

I then tucked the ends under, kind of like making a bed.

Then I used upholstery tacks to hold it. I hammered them in. It was trickier than I thought it was going to be.

This is the finished project for now. It isn't the greatest, but I don't have to look at or be embarrassed by the drooled red candy dye that was on it and is now hidden!

Precious

Do you remember that Jacob likes to take his naps on the floor? This continues almost every day. But, if he is still willing and needing to take his naps daily, then I don't care if it is on the floor or not.
A few nights ago, I went to close the boys door so the TV wouldn't bother them. This is what I found...

The worst part was that I almost stepped on him! So precious! Love you Jakey!

Yikes!!!

I did this! To my son! I feel terrible! My only consolation is that his hair grows fast and will need to be cut in a couple of weeks because of the heat here. Jonathan, please forgive me! He has seen the picture and seems so not bothered by it! Thank you Lord!

Oh, Jacob just asked where his spot was! He really wants to be like his brother!
